Disaster Action Program

When disaster strikes, Whitesboro shows up. Our community is known for its generosity — meals, clothes, toys, and support always pour in. But too often, families end up with too much of one thing and not enough of the essentials they really need.

That’s why we created the Disaster Action Program (DAP). Working with the Red Cross, local churches, businesses, and volunteers, the program gives families a clear, guided path from the first night after a tragedy through full recovery.

With Red Cross–trained volunteers here in town, help can be activated immediately. Families will have access to temporary housing, meals, clothing, storage, financial aid, and a direct line of communication so their needs are met in real time.

The goal is simple: to take the generosity that already defines Whitesboro and organize it in a way that makes the greatest impact.

How You Can Help

There are many ways to be part of the Disaster Action Program. Every role matters, whether it’s big or small.

  • Donate Financially

    • Give online or in person at our partner bank.

    • All donations are earmarked directly for the family in need.

    • Even small amounts help cover hotel nights, groceries, or gas cards.

  • Provide Goods

    • Follow our real-time needs list before donating. This ensures families receive exactly what they need — no more, no less.

    • Items may include clothing, school supplies, groceries, hygiene items, or household essentials.

    • Donation boxes will be available at local grocery and dollar stores.

  • Volunteer Your Time

    • Join our disaster response team. Tasks include sorting donations, delivering meals, helping organize storage, or checking in on families.

    • You can also sign up to be “on call” when urgent needs arise.

  • Offer Housing

    • Add your name to our “Host for a Night” list. This means you’d be willing to open your home temporarily to a displaced family until longer-term housing is arranged.

    • Local hotels are also offering discounted rates, and citizens can help cover these stays.

  • Support Through Local Businesses

    • Restaurants can provide meal vouchers or gift cards.

    • Storage companies and service providers can donate space or services.
