Heart of Whitesboro Launches Disaster Action Program to Support Families in Crisis

Whitesboro, TX — September 19, 2025 — Heart of Whitesboro has announced the launch of the Disaster Action Program (DAP), a new initiative designed to provide immediate and organized support for local families impacted by fire, storms, or other tragedies.

Whitesboro is known for its generosity when neighbors face hardship, with meals, clothing, and donations pouring in. However, without a clear system, families often receive an overwhelming amount of one item and still lack the essentials they need most. The Disaster Action Program is designed to solve that problem by giving families a clear, guided path through crisis and ensuring the community’s generosity has the maximum impact.

Through partnerships with the Red Cross, local churches, businesses, and volunteers, the program coordinates real-time response efforts — from temporary housing and meals to clothing, storage, financial aid, and long-term recovery support. With Red Cross–trained volunteers based in Whitesboro, resources can now be activated immediately without waiting for out-of-town response teams.

“The goal is simple,” said Benjamin Edwards, co-founder of Heart of Whitesboro. “We want to make sure families aren’t just surrounded with good intentions, but with exactly what they need to get back on their feet. This program takes the compassion our town is already known for and gives it structure, so it changes lives in the most effective way possible.”

Community members are encouraged to get involved in several ways:

  • Donating funds or items based on the program’s real-time needs list

  • Volunteering their time to help with meals, deliveries, and donation organization

  • Offering housing by joining the “host list” to provide a safe place for a displaced family

  • Partnering through local businesses with meal vouchers, storage space, or services

Heart of Whitesboro Launches Newcomer’s Club to Welcome New Residents

WHITESBORO, TEXAS — July 26, 2025 –  In an effort to help new residents feel more connected and supported, Heart of Whitesboro has officially launched the Welcome to Whitesboro Newcomer’s Club, a new initiative aimed at helping individuals and families who are new to the area settle in and find their place in the community.

The Newcomer’s Club is designed to serve as a welcoming bridge for those who have recently moved to Whitesboro or are still finding their footing. Through casual meetups, informative gatherings, and a dedicated Facebook group, the program will provide new residents with opportunities to meet neighbors, learn about local services and events, and feel more at home.

“Whitesboro is growing, and we want to make sure that growth doesn’t come at the cost of community,” said Benjamin Edwards, President of Heart of Whitesboro.

The program will include:

  • Quarterly in-person events with light refreshments and helpful information

  • Guest speakers from local organizations, city government, and schools

  • Community spotlights introducing local businesses and volunteer opportunities

  • A Facebook group where newcomers can ask questions, connect with others, and stay up to date on town happenings

Heart of Whitesboro will serve as the organizer and host of the program, and all events are open to newcomers at no cost. Children are welcome.

Heart of Whitesboro Launches Babysitter Registry to Connect Families with Local, Trained Sitters

WHITESBORO, TX – June 26, 2025 — Heart of Whitesboro, a volunteer-led nonprofit focused on fostering connection and support within the community, has officially launched the Whitesboro Babysitter Registry — a new resource designed to connect local families with trained, responsible babysitters from within the community.

The registry serves as a central listing of teens, ages 13-19, who have completed a certified babysitting course (such as Red Cross or Whitesboro Fire Department training) and are available to care for children in the Whitesboro area. Each sitter’s listing includes their general availability, relevant certifications, and the contact information of a parent or guardian.

“This isn’t a hiring service or matchmaking system,” said Ben Edwards, President of Heart of Whitesboro. “It’s just a simple, trusted way for neighbors to connect. Families who need a sitter can browse the list. Young people who want to help and earn some experience can safely sign up. It’s neighbor-to-neighbor, exactly how a small town should work.”

The babysitter registry is available now at heartofwhitesboro.org/babysitter-registry. Teens who meet the criteria are encouraged to apply using the online form, and families seeking sitters can check back frequently as new profiles are added.

“We’ve already seen strong interest from both parents and potential sitters,” said Edwards. “As more names are added, this will grow into a valuable and lasting resource for the entire community.”

Heart of Whitesboro will continue to update the registry on a rolling basis and encourages residents to reach out with questions or ideas.
